The famous Helix Nebula suffers on the low declination, especially for central European latitudes. Often the low surface brightness but huge nebula is swallowed by horizontal smog and is only visible only when using filters as it was the case when making the sketch.

NGC 7293: Without the [OIII] filter the central star is visible, the nebula is not. When using the filter the nebula becomes evident. A ring with a darker center and brighter parts in the eastern and western ring is visible. The northern quarter of the ring is the faintest, the eastern part the brightest part. A star is involved in the east.
