NGC 4656 ist eine sehr interessante Galaxie, die mit dem irregulären Kompanion NGC 4657 wechselwirkt. Schon in mittleren Teleskopen sind interessante Strukturen zu erkennen.
Zusammen mit der nur 30' entfernten Galaxie NGC 4631 bildet sie ein sehr schönes Galaxienpaar zweier unregelmäßiger Galaxien!
NGC 4656 is a very interesting galaxy which interacts with its companion NGC 4657. In midsize telescopes interesting structure is discernable.
It forms a very nice pair of irregular galaxies together with the only 30' distant NGC 4631.
NGC 4656: helle ziemlich langestreckte Galaxie, recht flächenschwach. In der Mitte eine deutliche zentrale Verdichtung, die etwas nach W verschoben ist. Diese ist nach O gebogen. Im N schließt sich dann NGC 4657 an.
NGC 4657: Fortsatz von NGC 4656 jedoch keine eigenständige Galaxie. Noch schwächer als diese, gegen den Rest der Galaxie nach W gebogen, an der Nordkante heller. Die Nordkante ist konvex gebogen, währen die Südkante gerade veläuft.
NGC 4656: Bright and considerably elongated galaxy with a fairly low surface brightness. In the middle is a distinct central condensation somewhat shifted W. The brightening is curved towards E. Connected to NGC 4657 in N.
NGC 4657: Extension of NGC 4656 but not an independent galaxy. Fainter than the first, curved against the rest of the galaxy towards W. The northern rim is brighter. The northern edge is convex while the southern edge is straight.
