M 100: Sehr große, sehr helle Galaxie. Sehr heller, flächiger Kern mit einem kleinen Zentralgebiet darum. Der Hauptkörper ist wie eine sehr dicke Linse geformt, O-W elongiert. Die Linsenenden sind vorallem im W verbreitert. Insgesamt ergibt sich eine etwa runde Form mit einem unregelmäßigen Rand. Es sind aber keine definierte Spiralarmstrukturen zu sehen.
M 100: Very large, very bright galaxy. Very bright, extended core in a small central area. The main body has the shape of a thick lens, elongated E-W. The ends of the lens have some extensions, which are more prominent in W. In all the galaxy has a round shape with irregular edges. But no definite spiral structure are visible. The supernova SN 2006X is situated at the rim of the galaxy and is visible even at 91x with averted vision (right).
