Frosty Leo oder auch IRAS 09371+1212 ist ein protoplanetarischer Nebel, also ein Nebel im Zwischenstadium
vom roten Riesen zum planetarischen Nebel. Sein ungewöhnliches Spektrum wurde mit der Existenz von 65 K kalten Wasserkörnchen
erklärt. Daher kommt auch der ungewöhliche Eigenname.
Frosty Leo or IRAS 09371+1212 is a proto-planetary nebula, a stage in the live of stars between the red giants and
planetary nebulae. Its unique spectrum could be explained with water grains of 65 K temperature. That is where it has
its name from.
Frosty Leo: Bei 139x als heller Stern sichtbar. Bei 300x zeigt er sich als sehr kleine, dickbauchige
'8'. Diese ist von einem etwa doppelt so großem Nebelhalo umgeben. Eine zentrale Helligkeitsspitze mit etwas Mühe sichtbar.
Mit Polarisationsfilter erkenne ich eine sehr geringe Variabilität.
Frosty Leo: At 139x visible as bright star. At 300x it shows up as a very small bold "8". It is
surrounded by a halo about double the size of the '8'. The central bright peak is visible with some efforts.
When using and rotating the polarization filter I am able to discern a very slight variability.
